Investigation opened into claims made by Liam Byrne MP

Following receipt of a complaint received from IPSA, the Compliance Officer for the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority has opened an investigation into claims made under the MPs’ Scheme of Business Costs and Expenses ('the Scheme') by Liam Byrne MP. The expenditure under investigation relates to Office Costs Expenditure claimed under the Scheme.

In accordance with the legislation and the procedures for investigation, no further information shall be published until the investigation has been concluded. Upon conclusion of the investigation, a report including details of the case made against the MP, evidence, findings and any sanctions will be published. Details of the complaints process can be found via this link.

The Compliance Officer for IPSA is an independent office holder established as a separate public authority from IPSA under the Parliamentary Standards Act 2009, as amended by the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act 2010. She is responsible for investigating complaints regarding MPs' business costs and expenses paid to MPs by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority ('IPSA').
