Request

I understand that you are involved solely with MPs and deduce from your letter that you hold information only after May 2010. In relation to MPs expenses after this date can you confirm that:

  1. All MPs who claimed expenses illegally have been required to and have paid back the amount in full.

  2. Only 1 MP mentioned in your letter has not paid and that this is the only one.

  3. Finally to whom should I address any queries prior to May 2010 in relation to expenses claimed illegally.

Response

I can confirm that the Compliance Officer for IPSA holds some of the requested information.

Specifically you requested:

  1. confirmation that all MPs, post May 2010, who claimed expenses illegally have been required to and have paid back the amount in full.

  2. confirmation that only 1 MP mentioned in your letter has not paid and that this is only one.

  3. to know whom you should address any queries prior to May 2010, in relation to expenses claimed illegally.

In relation to your first request, I can confirm that no MPs have been found to have claimed for any expenses illegally under the IPSA MPs’ Expenses Scheme. Therefore, there has been no requirement for repayments of this type.

With regard to your second request, I can confirm that to date only one MP who has received money to which they were not entitled has not repaid.

Finally in relation to your last request, the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards is responsible for receiving and investigating complaints regarding MPs’ expenses claims prior to May 2010.

Therefore, your request regarding MPs expenses prior to May 2010 should be directed to the House of Commons Freedom of Information Office, which may be able to assist you. You can write to them at:

Freedom of Information Officer, The House of Commons, Department of HR and Change, 7 Millbank, London SW1P 3JA
