Statement of Provisional Findings into Jim Shannon MP

The Compliance Officer for the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority has today published his Statement of Provisional Findings as part of his investigation into claims made under the MPs’ Scheme of Business Costs and Expenses (‘the Scheme’) by Mr Jim Shannon MP.

The investigation was opened on 11 January 2016 following a referral from the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) regarding claims made under the Scheme by the MP for Travel and Subsistence Expenditure.

The Provisional Findings require Mr Shannon to repay £13,925.86.

In accordance with the legislation and the Procedures for Investigation made thereunder, both Mr Shannon and IPSA have a further opportunity to make representations in writing to the Compliance Officer in respect of these provisional findings. Both parties will be given fifteen working days from the date of this statement to submit any further representations. Further representations must therefore be received by 16 June 2016.

If representations are received, the Compliance Officer will consider these before preparing a Statement of Findings. If not, the Compliance Officer will publish a Closure Report confirming the conclusion of the investigation.
